What Do We Do?

“Mothering the mother”

Doula is a Greek word which is translated as a ‘woman’s servant’. It might be a new trend but with a very old idea. It is a non-medical role, providing both physical and emotional support to birthing women. A doula will support you and your partner from pregnancy right up to the post-natal period, including being there for your labour whether it be a home birth, birth centre, public hospital or private hospital birth.

How Can We Help?

A doula will provide you with information to help you make informed decisions about your birth. Focusing 100% on you and your partner during labour, a doula will support you using massage, relaxation and visualisation techniques. A doula believes in a woman’s natural ability to birth her baby and will help you to feel confident and in control of your experience. Having a doula ensures that you are supported throughout your labour by someone you have already built a relationship with, and who knows what you truly want for your birth. Studies have shown that having a doula reduces the use of medical interventions such as inductions, epidurals, pain medications, forceps, vacuum deliveries and Caesareans.
